Generell betegnelse på fysisk planlegging i byer.Formelt skiller ikke plansystemet verken mellom planlegging i byer versus på landsbygda eller mellom planlegging i tettbygd versus spredtbygd strøk, se tettsted og spredtbygd strøk. Begrepet byplanlegging brukes primært om planlegging i tettbygde områder med en viss folkemengde, se byplan, og da gjerne forstått som fysisk planlegging i form av arealplanlegging.

Urban planning

english definition:

General characterization of physical planning in urban areas.Legally there is no distinction in the planning system, neither between planning in towns versus in the country side, nor between planning in urban versus rural areas, cf. Urban areas and Sparsely populated areas. The term is most commonly understood as comprehensive planning in urban areas of a certain size in terms of inhabitants, and then as land use planning, cf. Urban plan.
