Vispārīgie būvnoteikumi ir Ministru kabineta izdoti noteikumi, kas reglamentē būvniecības pamatnosacījumus. Pārgrozot vai pārbūvējot jau pastāvošu būvi vai ceļot jaunu būvi, jāievēro vispārīgie un vietējās pašvaldības būvnoteikumi. Vispārīgie būvnoteikumi nosaka būves projektēšanas, būvprojekta saskaņošanas un akceptēšanas kārtību.

english definition:

General Building Regulations are issued by the national government regulating the basic conditions of construction. Applicable general and local building regulations must be complied with in altering or reconstructing an already existing structure or constructing a new structure. General Building Regulations prescribes procedures for the design of a structure, co-ordination and acceptance of a building design.
