Ēkas kopējo platību nosaka kvadrātmetros (m2), summējot visu telpu platību ēkas stāvos starp sienu iekšējām virsmām, tai skaitā pagrabstāvā un mansarda stāvā. Kopējā platībā neieskaita bēniņu (arī tehnisko bēniņu), tehniskās pagrīdes, ārtelpu un ārējo atklāto kāpņu platību. Kāpņu telpas vai tās daļas platību ieskaita tā stāva platībā, no kura kāpnes ved augšup.

english definition:

The total area of a building is determined in square meters (m2) by adding up the area of all rooms on the floors of the building between the inner surfaces of walls, including the basement and mezzanine floors. The area of attics (also technical attics), technical cellar space, outdoor space and exterior open stairs shall not be included into the total area. The area of the staircase or part thereof shall be included in the area of the storey from which the stair leads up.
