Planeeringu vastuvõtmine tähendab, et linna- või vallavalitsus, kohalik volikogu või maavanem, kellel on vastav pädevus otsuse tegemiseks, kinnitab, et planeering on valmis, selles sisu vastab vastuvõtja tahtele, planeering on saanud kõik vajalikud kooskõlastused ning et planeeringu sisu ja menetlemine on seadustega vastavuses. Planeerimisseaduse järgi teeb üldplaneeringu ja detailplaneeringute vastuvõtmise otsused kohalik omavalitsus ning maakonnaplaneeringu vastuvõtmise otsuse teeb maavanem. Peale planeeringu vastuvõtmist peab vastav võimuorgan organiseerima planeeringu avaliku väljapaneku.

english definition:

Acceptance of a plan means that the city or rural municipality government or council or county governor who has the relevant authority to make this decision acknowledges that the plan is ready, its content complies with their will, it has received all the necessary concertations and that its content and proceedings are in conformity with the law. According to the Planning Act, a local government  shall make the decision on acceptance of comprehensive and detail plans and a county governor  shall make the decision on acceptance of a county plan. After the acceptance of the plan respective authority shall organise the public display of the plan.
