Tilbageførsel er det modsatte af inddragelse af (nyt) areal. Kommunalbestyrelsen kan beslutte at tilbageføre arealer fra byzone (eller sommerhusområde) til landzone i overensstemmelse med kommuneplanen. Ved tilbageførsel af privat ejede arealer til landzone kan der være tale om erstatning.

This is zone transfer in the other direction. The municipal council may decide to transfer areas from an urban zone (or a summer cottage area) to a rural zone in accordance with the municipal plan. The owners of private property transferred back to a rural zone may submit compensation claims.
