En byplanvedtægt er en plan for en mindre del af kommunen, vedtaget i henhold til tidligere planlove. En byplanvedtægt regulerer ejendommenes anvendelse og bebyggelse – i princippet svarende til vor tids lokalplaner, som blev indført I 1977. Selv om de ældste byplanvedtægter er mere end 50 år gamle, er de stadig retligt bindende for de ejendomme, som de er tinglyst på. Nye lokalplaner, der vedtages for disse områder, erstatter de gamle byplanvedtægter.

english definition:

A town planning by-law is a plan for a smaller district of a municipality adopted pursuant to former planning legislation. A town planning by-law regulates the use and construction of the properties – in principle similar to the present local plans, introduced in 1977. Even though Denmark’s oldest town planning by-laws are more than 50 years old, they are still legal binding for the properties for which they are registered in the land registry. New local plans passed for these areas supersede the old town planning by-laws.
